Upward and still higher it goes, the road in places so steep, a landscape of enormous, round boulders and scrubs. Ingenious canals gather the sparse rain from the vast rockfaces to sustain the terraced fields. Caves offered shelter, and some still do. Welcome to the Al Baha mountains!
Gaze over the valley, across from the setting sun, sip Saudi coffee or hot mint tea and sample mountain foods like Alkhoot, a stew with seasonal mountain herbs, and daghabees, wheat dough discs simmered in spicy broth. Climb up carefully to the round summit behind the village, feel the wind, see the lights far below.
Sleep out under the stars on a mattress or in one of the rustic rooms. Proper beds and bathrooms, heating and even connectivity. In the middle of nowhere yet only an hour from UNESCO listed Thee Ain and Baha city. Continue the roadtrip past Mecca or the colorful Asir region. We prepared the setting, the rest is up to you!
